Monina Lei Reyes

Pronouns: SHE/HER/HERS

Areas of Focus: LGBTQIA+ lived experiences and liberation, intersectionality, immigrant mental health, identity and value exploration, relational concerns, attachment, anxiety, depression, young adults, adults

Intersecting identities that inform my practice: I identify as a queer, cisgender, able-bodied, Asian-American immigrant.

Background & Approach: I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from the University of Florida after transitioning from a pre-medical track. I found that I wanted to delve further into the disparities in mental healthcare access that existed for traditionally marginalized communities, especially due to systemic and sociocultural factors.

I then went on to attain my Master’s of Science and Education Specialist degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Florida State University. During my time there, I was privileged enough to have had the opportunity to propose, conduct, and present research, as well as teach. I completed my internship at Florida State University’s Center for Couple and Family Therapy, in which I gained invaluable experience working with college-aged individuals, adults, and couples holding intersecting marginalized identities. I learned so much from my clients, and only hope to continue learning and growing!

I believe that there is so much power to be found within the therapeutic relationship. When there is mutual trust, respect, and authenticity in the room, we can start to effect healing. I see you for all that you are, and all that you still hope to be, and welcome you with warm, open arms.

Theoretical & Clinical Orientation: You are a whole person before you are anything else. My therapeutic approach centers around a social justice framework in which we work to humanize the mental health experience. I view my primary role as a therapist as one who shows up, listens, and empowers. Through the use of person-centered, systemic modalities, we can work together to better understand yourself and your relationships with others, and the world at large.

Outside of Work: You can find me in one of Denver’s many local coffee shops enjoying a lavender vanilla latte, a good book, writing, and/or immersing myself in music. I also love to find creative inspiration by being outdoors as well as being surrounded by the people that I love! Last but not least, I have two cats that I absolutely adore.
